πŸ’ Mission from Zip
Episode 6 🌿 Zip's Rainforest

The Secret Path Through the Sky

Frost watched the clouds and figured out where the water REALLY goes β€” and how it comes back!

Starring: 🐧 Frost Β· πŸ’ Zip Β· 🦏 Pointy
πŸ“š Learning Standard: NGSS: ESS2-1 & ESS2-3
Describe the water cycle and how energy from the sun drives each step (Evaporation β†’ Condensation β†’ Precipitation). Obtain information to communicate that water cycles through Earth's systems.

Frost the penguin stands on a rock in the rainforest center, one flipper pointing confidently up at fluffy white cumulus clouds in a blue sky. Zip the capuchin swings in on a vine from the left looking up with amazement. Pointy the rhinoceros stands to the right, snout pointed up at the sky in wonder. A full pond in the foreground. Puffy white clouds fill the sky. Speech bubbles: Frost says "I watched the clouds and figured it out." Zip says "Wait β€” clouds come from our POND?!" Pointy says "That's the longest path I have ever heard."
FrostI watched the clouds. I figured it out.
ZipWait β€” clouds come from our POND?!
PointyThat's the longest path I have ever heard of.

Frost had been watching the clouds β€” and figured it out!

Frost stands at a wooden easel with a large piece of paper showing a 3-step water cycle diagram with arrows: Step 1 shows a pond with wavy arrow pointing UP labeled "Evaporation". Step 2 shows clouds with arrow pointing right labeled "Condensation". Step 3 shows rain falling with arrow pointing DOWN labeled "Precipitation". Frost presents with one flipper gesturing to the diagram. Zip sits cross-legged on a branch taking notes. Pointy stands below examining the diagram with his snout nearly touching the paper. Speech bubbles: Frost says "Three steps. Evaporation, condensation, precipitation." Zip says "I am writing this ALL DOWN!" Pointy says "So the water goes UP, makes clouds, then comes back DOWN?"
FrostThree steps. Evaporation, condensation, precipitation.
ZipI am writing this ALL DOWN!
PointySo the water goes up to the clouds and comes back down?

Frost reveals the water cycle diagram!

Dark storm clouds form above the rainforest. Zip watches from a branch holding an umbrella made of a big tropical leaf. Frost stands below with his flippers open welcoming the rain. Pointy has his mouth open and tongue out catching raindrops. The pond in the foreground is filling back up as rain falls. Speech bubbles: Frost says "Precipitation is just the water coming back down." Zip says "The pond is filling back up! The cycle NEVER STOPS!" Pointy says "I am drinking from the sky. This is incredible."
FrostPrecipitation. The water comes back down as rain.
ZipThe pond is filling back up! The cycle never stops!
PointyI am drinking from the sky. This is incredible.

Rain falls β€” the water comes back down!

All three characters stand together at the edge of a now-full sparkling pond. A rainbow arcs across the sky behind them. Frost has one flipper around Zips shoulder, Pointy has his tail curled happily. Zip holds up a little book with "WATER CYCLE" written on it. Frost looks at Zip with warm expression. Speech bubbles: Frost says "The water cycle is how Earth recycles water. Forever." Zip says "So every raindrop in every storm was once in our pond!" Pointy says "I have learned SO MUCH today. Also I am still hungry but that is fine."
FrostThe water cycle recycles water forever. The same water, over and over.
ZipSo every raindrop was once in our pond! We are part of a giant system!
PointyI have learned so much today. Also still hungry but that is fine.

The water cycle never stops β€” Earth recycles water forever!

Your turn β€” screen goes OFF!

TRY THIS AT HOME! Make your own water cycle in a cup! Fill a clear cup with water, place a small marble or pebble in it, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and put it in the sun. Watch for 1-2 hours: water evaporates, condenses as droplets on the plastic, and drips back down! You just built a mini water cycle. Track your marble β€” where did the water go? It went up, made clouds on the plastic, then fell back down! Draw a picture of your water cycle with arrows: evaporation β†’ condensation β†’ precipitation.
